NECK AND LOW BACK PAIN

Neck and low back pain make up the overwhelming majority of the conditions we treat. Most of the time these pains are due to repetitive movements we perform at home or at work. The positions in which we spend the most time in, such as sitting, also have a profound effect on pains that develop in the spine.

DISC IRRITATION / BULGE / HERNIATION

Pain in the low back or neck that begins after lifting something heavy, coughing, sneezing, or sitting for long periods of time is often due to irritation or a bulge of the intervertebral disc, which is the structure that lies in between each vertebra in the spine. Disc injuries are very common and are best treated using conservative care such as chiropractic care or physical therapy.

“PINCHED” NERVES

Oftentimes, pain in the shoulder, arm, hips, or legs is a result of nerve pain. There are several ways in which a nerve can become compressed, entrapped, or “pinched” within the spine. When there is pressure on a nerve around the spine, this can allow pain to travel to other body areas. This is an example of when the root of the problem is somewhere other than where you notice the pain.

ARTHRITIS/JOINT PAIN

People often experience joint pain as they age due to arthritis. Degenerative arthritis (the most common type of arthritis) is simply degeneration of the cartilage within a joint. While this can be a common trait of the aging process, arthritis is typically due to the altered mechanics of a joint. These altered mechanics could be a joint restriction (a “stuck” joint), overuse, or compression within a joint. Regardless of the cause, chiropractic care can help to restore normal joint motion and prevent or halt joint degeneration.

HEADACHES

It is reported that over 50% of the population suffers from headache symptoms on a yearly basis. The most common type of headache is called a Tension Headache. This type of headache is due to muscle tension at the base and sides of the skull. In addition, the cervical spine (neck) can play a large role in why muscle tension is present. Given that chiropractic care is great for aches and pains that originate in the neck, our office is great at relieving headache symptoms.

STRAINS/SPRAINS

Strains and sprains are common injuries to sustain during a fall, while exercising, and even after a motor vehicle accident. A strain is an overstretched/overused muscle or tendon. A sprain is an overstretching injury of a ligament which is the structure that maintains the stability of a joint. Whether it be immediate care of an injury right after it happens or rehabilitation of an old injury, our office has multiple ways in which we can treat these injuries.

SPORTS-RELATED INJURIES

Sports can be very demanding on the body and most athletes will experience at least minor injuries at some point in their career. Whether it be a muscle strain, joint sprain, overuse injury, or something more serious, our office takes the time to perform a thorough evaluation of the injury before beginning treatment and eventually rehabilitation of the injury. Rehabilitation in our office is performed for minor injuries as well as for more serious injuries such as post-surgical rehabilitation of an ACL tear.

TMJ DISORDERS

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint involved in chewing, talking, and yawning. Since there is a joint on each side of the jaw, it is important that these two joints work symmetrically. Dysfunction of the joint is often due to asymmetrical muscle tension and will sometimes become very painful. This pain can be located in the jaw, teeth, ear, and even in the form of a headache. Through treatment of the surrounding muscles, we can often provide relief to TMJ syndrome.

POST SURGICAL PAIN

There is a wide range of pains associated with various surgical procedures. Some of these are related to the procedure itself and some are due to the positions which you have to maintain after the surgery when wearing braces, casts, and slings. After a comprehensive evaluation, the doctor will determine what forms of treatment are safe to perform and what type of rehabilitation might be necessary.
